Tanja Nijmeijer, de oud-studente die zich heeft aangesloten bij de Colombiaanse guerrillabeweging FARC, heeft zich mogelijk schuldig gemaakt aan strafbare feiten. Dat zegt het Openbaar Ministerie in Den Haag. Dan moet wel voor de Nederlandse rechter worden aangetoond dat de FARC een criminele organisatie is. Dat de Revolutionaire Gewapende Krachten van Colombia (FARC) op de Europese en Amerikaanse terreurlijst staat, is onvoldoende bewijs.

Als voor de Nederlandse rechter wordt bewezen dat de FARC een criminele organisatie is, kan Nijmeijer strafbaar zijn. Ook als zij alleen vertaalwerk heeft verricht. Medewerking aan een organisatie waarvan men kan weten dat deze zich schuldig maakt aan drugshandel, het gebruik van geweld en ontvoering kan tot een veroordeling leiden wegens lidmaatschap van een criminele organisatie.
Vervolging
Het Openbaar Ministerie is nog geen onderzoek begonnen naar de gedragingen van Tanja Nijmeijer, maar zou daar wel toe kunnen overgaan als er voldoende aanleiding voor is. Als er bewijzen zijn dat zij zich heeft aangesloten bij een criminele organisatie, kan dat zowel in Nederland als in Colombia leiden tot vervolging. Nijmeijer kan in Nederland worden berecht, ook als zij nog in Colombia is. Zij verliest in ieder geval niet haar Nederlandse nationaliteit door toe te treden tot een terroristische organisatie. Dat gebeurt alleen als iemand in vreemde krijgsdienst is gegaan en tegen het Nederlandse Koninkrijk of zijn bondgenoten heeft gevochten.
Nijmeijers ouders hebben tot dusverre geen hulp gevraagd van het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. Volgens een woordvoerder van het ministerie wordt er op dit moment wel onderzoek gedaan naar haar achtergronden. Het ministerie wil weten of het klopt dat zij zich bij de FARC heeft aangesloten. De ouders van de oud-studente vermijden tot nog toe alle publiciteit, mogelijk om hun dochter niet verder in gevaar te brengen. De vondst van de dagboeken kan haar in een lastig parket brengen, omdat de FARC haar daarvoor zou kunnen straffen.
Ambassadeur
Volgens kenners van terroristische organisaties in Zuid-Amerika kan de FARC Nijmeijer ook gebruiken als ambassadeur. Vanwege de aandacht die de media voor haar hebben, zou zij goed naar buiten kunnen treden als woordvoerder. In haar dagboeken schrijft ze tenslotte niet alleen negatief over de organisatie, maar zegt ze zich er ook goed thuis te voelen. Het lijkt niet aannemelijk dat de FARC haar zal doden, omdat dit veel negatieve publiciteit oplevert voor de organisatie, die de laatste jaren juist probeert haar imago op te vijzelen.
In de gewapende Colombiaanse strijd zijn wel meer buitenlanders te vinden, met name uit de buurlanden Venezuela en Ecuador. Volgens Liduine Zumpolle, die als Colombia-expert bij Pax Christi was betrokken, zijn er zeker drie Nederlanders bij de FARC. Maar ook bij het Colombiaanse leger zijn buitenlanders in dienst. Zo gaven Italianen en Israëliers training aan de militairen. En er is zelfs een Colombiaan van Nederlandse komaf die zeven jaar in dienst van het leger vocht. Deze man, David Böhm, was op de hoogte dat bij de FARC een Nederlandse vrouw meevocht. Zijn medesoldaten maakten er zelfs grappen over dat twee Nederlanders in Colombia tegen elkaar streden.
Regeling
Van de Colombiaanse regering heeft Nijmeijer niets te vrezen. Deserteurs van de FARC worden met open armen ontvangen en krijgen allerlei privileges. Zij ontvangen een maandelijkse bijdragen in hun levensonderhoud en met speciale pasjes krijgen zij toegang tot psychische hulp en opleidingen. In de afgelopen jaren hebben zeker vijfduizend ex-FARC leden van deze regeling gebruikgemaakt. Als Tanja Nijmeijer kans ziet de FARC te ontvluchten, is ze veilig. Het is alleen de vraag of zij dat wil en of ze in staat is te ontkomen in de jungle.

De Europese media blijken aan het Stockholm Syndroom te lijden en hangen nog steeds een verkeerd beeld op van wat de FARC eigenlijk wel inhoudt. Hier in Colombia weten we wel beter, de 46 gijzelaars die BELANGRIJK genoeg zijn mogen nog van geluk spreken anderen (de meer dan 700 die gewoon ontvoerd zijn om "de boel te finacieren" waar er nog max. 450 van in leven zijn) waar geen losgeld door famillie voor betaald worden gewoon AFGESLACHT (nog deze week werden 4 lijken gevonden van gijzelaards van de FARC waar men zelfs geen kogel aan heeft "verspild", ze werden doodgeslagen !!). Dan spreken we nog niet over de tientallen moorden en aanslagen die maandelijks gepleegd worden, voor een groot deel op onschuldige burgeers. We spreken dan nog niet over het feit dat de FARC samenwerkt met de diverse Cartels zoals Valle de Cauca en een van de grote "leveranciers" en "handelaars" geworden is van "het witte goud".Het is en blijft duidelijk, FARC is een terroristische organisatie en staat aldus in Europa en in de US als dusdanig gebrandmerkt en het is voor mij een uitgemaakte zaak dat het OM in dit geval groot gelijk heeft.

Dus er zit een meisje in Columbia (Zuid Amerika) in de jungle. Bij de koffie automaat van het OM wordt dan gedacht. He ! misschien is ze wel strafbaar.
Altijd leuk om te horen wat er nu weer met je belastingcenten gebeurd.
Als je wat wilt doen stuur dan die mariniers op de antillen erop af om haar daar uit te halen.
Maar vooral steun haar! Dit lijkt me niet de goede boodschap die wij over onze onderdanen moeten afgeven. Tanja heeft lef en dat is nogal schaars, respect!

If she gets captured. However, one other thing is available for her. DEMOBILIZE. The Colombian government has setup an amnesty program for those who want to leave the FARC. As long as they haven't commited any crimes against humanity, like blowing up inocent people in some village, they can go free and join civilian life. However, if you get captured, you go straight to jail. The only problem with that is: FARC will not let you go. People that flee usually come back saying they had to kill their captain or sargents in order to get away. Tanja herself knows this, because she is not even allowed to go to town by herself. No one is. She has unfortuanally become a prisoner if not a corpse. If she manages to get past all of this, and face the Colombian government for a pardon, mostlikely she will be deported back to her country, where she will, probably, not face any prison time. She can use this time to write a book and talk about all she has done there. Believe it or not, her diary has done more to damage the FARC's work in Europe than waves of Colombian dignitaries trying to push for European governments to hear them out about the FARC.

Thanks for Asking Pascal, I honestly think Tanja made a huge mistake. She thought she was doing something right, without doing all the homework first. Picking up a rifle is never the answer, same thing is happening in America (for those who love this topic still), I was wrong for Bush to invade at gun point. If there is one thing Europe should do is not to permit FARC to infiltrate and poison your minds. Just recelty a letter was sent to all governments in Europe from the FARC commandants so they can be taken of the terrorist list. Dont Do it, please. Freeze all bank accounts, prohibit them from public events, do what you must. Interpool has the responsability to arrest any member of these type of organizations. Tanja should be held accountable, not for standing up againt the crappy Colombian governent, but for picking up a rifle and using it with the intent to harm others. Even if she did not rob the bank, she is as guilty as the getway driver (understand me now?) If she is still alive, of course, she needs to go to prison.

JOAO, I believe you are right that the US is trying to build up Iraq to their own - and the rest of the worlds- benefit. I believe the only way to stabilize this world (which- I hope you will agree-, will ultimately benefit us all) is to educate, help finance and thus empower people to become independent, whether this is Portugal, Iraq or Columbia. People need realistic confidence that they and their children have a good life with a roof above their head, food on their plate and some sort of accomplishment to make them satisfied with their life, now and in the future. The absence of this confidence makes people turn to organizations like FARC in Columbia, Al Quaida in the Middle East and in the past the Red Khmer in Cambodia, for food, shelter and meaning of life.
The real discussion is fortunately not about Tanja; I believe she is merely an explorer of her own boundaries. The real discussion is how we can maximize our power to help empower other minorities. And if I may add -and this is not from Fox News; I work with the US Army-,; educating, financing and thus empowering minorities is exactly what the US Army is aiming for today.
