The Metropole Orchestra Big Band

Program one of European Jazz Stage 2008 features music from Vince Mendoza with the Metropole Orchestra Big Band, Nils Landgren, Ilja Reijngoud and Fay Claassen.

 

Electrified: the North Sea Jazz Festival

From The North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, where 15 stages rock, croon, swing and fly with music from across the spectrum of jazz. Here are some of the best electric bands the 2007 festival had to offer.

 

Young lions

This program features saxophone player Joris Roelofs - just 24 - who has won the Stan Getz/Clifford Brown fellowship Award in the US. Also we hear the European Youth Jazz Orchestra.

 

Jazz adventure

One of the last concerts by the late wizard of keys and sounds, Joe Zawinul. And Paris Touch gives us an intriguing sample from the jazz micro-cosmos of the French capital.

 

European talent: North Sea Jazz Festival

This program has highlights of the finalists' sets of the first European Jazz Competition, hosted by the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2007. It focuses too on British winning iband Empirical.

 

Europe Goes Tropical

Hermeto Pascoal, founding father of Brazilian free jazz, happily mixes traditional rhythms like forros, frevos and sambas with jazz, rock and even modern classical music.

In this program, highlights of one complete night of music from the Madeira Hall at the 2007 North Sea Jazz Festival. It's a sanctuary of intimate and delicate music, played by experienced musicians with impeccable taste and style.

 

Funky stuff

The beat goes on in this show featuring the Yohimbe Brothers: Vernon Reid, DJ Logic and Taylor McFerrin. Also there's Benjamin Herman with his quartet: Carlo D'Wys, Jesse van Ruller and Martijn Vink.
