New evidence in Madeleine McCann case

Portuguese police are interviewing two Dutch newspaper reporters who have found a towel in the area identified as the possible burial location of four-year-old British girl Madeleine McCann in a tip-off from a Dutch source.

Wrapped in towels
According to their newspaper De Telegraaf, another tip-off has come in from a different source claiming that a man was seen carrying a child wrapped in towels near the place where Madeleine disappeared. Five Portuguese detectives accompanied the Dutch reporters to the spot where they found the towel, followed by a Portuguese TV camera crew.

Letter
It was De Telegraaf which received the anonymous letter containing clues regarding the whereabouts of the missing child. Both Dutch and Portuguese police are taking the letter very seriously, because it seems to have been written by the same person who last year sent a letter providing the exact location of the two murdered Belgian girls Stacey and Nathalie.

Shrubland
The letter said Madeleine could be found not far from the hotel room she was abducted from on 3 May this year near Praia de Luz, Portugal. It says that she lies buried "north of the road under branches and rocks, around six to seven metres off the road" in a barren and deserted hilly landscape.

Crosses on a map that came with the letter show the alleged location of her body. De Telegraaf handed the letter over to Dutch police who sent a full colour scan to detectives in Portugal. A full-scale search of the area with sniffer dogs is taking place today.

Celebrity appeal
The McCann family has enjoyed broad public support following the abduction of their daughter. A British businessman has offered a reward of 1.5 million euros for a golden tip regarding Madeleine's whereabouts. The famous football players David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo have appeared on television to appeal for her release.

If the person who has poor little maddie is reading this please bring her home. She has done nothing to you. Think how scared she is, just bring her back to where she belong's, her family.

Rukoilen pienen Madeleinen puolesta että lapsi löytyisi ja pääsisi kotiin vanhempiensa luokse.

There wont be a monent in time that the McCanns will regret doing what they did, but i think you should stop making their heartache worse by accusing them. it could have happened to any parent who has ever taken their eye off their child for what ever reason. i wish all these people would see that it could have been them and stop making this worse for the family. No they sholdnt have left yhem, but i wonder how many of us caould think of any everyday situation where if thiese perverts had been around it could have happened to us. We need to protect our children with the law and bring back execution for these vile beings anyone who has these tendencies towards children should be hung..lets get rid of these hateful sink men and woman in our societies.

My heart is sinking for poor little Madeleine and hopes that she would return safely to her parents. I raised three daughters on my own and I cannot imgaine the heartache and anguish that her parents must be feeling. My prayers are with her and her family

I have a daughter who is exactly the same age as Maddie, I look at her every day and count my blessings that it is not my child who has been taken. I really feel for the Mccann family and I'm sure that what ever course of action they chose to take on the night that Maddie was abducted they now regret bitterly. It saddens me to think that people can be so angry with the parents when they are going through the heartbreaking loss of their daughter day after day after day. My greatest hope is that Madeline is found alive and well and reunited with her family, my heart is breaking both for Madeline and her family. May God look after you Madeline.

God is so blind, why he's brought bad people into this world? Our heart goes out to the McCann family and especially that little angel Maddie.

stacey, 15-06-2007 - merseyside

This is so sad I can't imagine what her family are going through I pray for Maddie everyday I don't know how any person can be so cruel to do this to a child my heart goes out to Maddie what she must be going through I cant even think about it I get to upset I really hope this has a happy ending I will not rest until she is found safe.

reshma banan, 15-06-2007 - India

I have been hoping and praying for Maddie's safe return. Today's news is devastating for everybody. I still hoping and praying that Maddie's is alright.

Heather, 15-06-2007 - US

There are no words to express the sorrow I feel for Madeleine and her family. I pray daily for her safe return. My daughter reminds me of Madeleine and it literally breaks my heart to even think about what she must be going through. I agree with everyone who has said these people should receive the death penalty. I pray the letter is not true and a miracle will occur and she will be found. I pray for every child and family who has suffered at the hands of these evil and vile people. May they suffer beyond imagination.

SANDRA, 14-06-2007 - ENGLAND

I am so saddened by the disapearence of maddie, i myself have a little girl called maddie and can only imagine the pain and heartache that her parents have gone through since she was taken. I am appalled at people who choose to ridicule them for leaving her. Im sure that Maddie's abductor's had planned the whole thing it is too coincidental that it was a chance abduction, whoever has taken her would of made some attempt at another time. To Maddie's parents i think that the people who chose to be un kind to you should be ashamed of themselves you have and still are doing everything to get her back and i pray for your sucess in finding her, never give up hope.
